Obituary


Marie Wahl died on May 16, 2017. Born in Manhattan on April 1, 1921, she moved to Staten Island in 1932, attended New Dorp H.S. and graduated from the National School of Cosmeticians. She owned and operated the Saint George Beauty Salon in St. George for 40 years.
She met her husband, James Wahl, during World War II when he was in the Navy and she was a volunteer at the Catholic USO. They married in 1944, had two children and settled in the Todt Hill section.

Marie Wahl died on May 16, 2017. Born in Manhattan on April 1, 1921, she moved to Staten Island in 1932, attended New Dorp H.S. and graduated from the National School of Cosmeticians. She owned and operated the Saint George Beauty Salon in St. George for 40 years.
She met her husband, James Wahl, during World War II when he was in the Navy and she was a volunteer at the Catholic USO. They married in 1944, had two children and settled in the Todt Hill section.
Marie and James recevied letters of recognition for the 30 years they volunteered at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Hospital, and Marie volunteered with the Catholic Daughters of America for 30 years. She was also the special events chairman for the Museum of Arts and Science Auxiliary.
Marie was predeceased by her husband; two sons, James and Dennis, and two sisters, Gloria Yellovich and Alice Sullivan. She is survived by her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Pat Wahl.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:45 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church, 634 Victory Blvd. Burial is in St. Peter's Cemetery.
